It is with a heavy heart that we report that Studio Ghibli cofounder Isao Takahata has passed away yesterday April 5th, 2018 at the age of 82. Both Isao and Miyazaki worked together at Toei Animation where they met each other, and through making epic anime, would leave together and start Studio Ghibli. Anything Isao Takahata touched was gold. As writer, director, producer and obviously epic animator, he helped breathe life into Nausicaa of The Valley of The Wind and 1986's Castle in The Sky, and actually directed Grave of The Fireflies.

Just like Studio Ghibli geniuses broke off from Toei Animation, Studio Ponoc animators left Ghibli - their first anime is Mary and The Witch's Flower.

Creation, destruction, separation, growth- these are all parts of the natural flow of things, especially creative endeavors. The seeds leave the flower, and grow anew. All we can do is understand and celebrate. We'll be watching both Nausicaa and Mary April 14th

What was your favourite thing from Isao Takahata?
